In-house steel detailing

Detailing is where steel jobs are won or lost, so we never farmed it out. Our detailers work in-house in Sarnia, seats away from the estimators who priced the job and the fitters who build it.

The capability

Where good steel starts

Most shops our size rent their detailing from the other side of the world and pray. Ours happens down the hall.

Our detailers model every job in SDS/2: full 3D, connection by connection, bolt by bolt. Shop drawings, erection drawings, and field bolt lists come out of one coordinated model, with connection design coordinated with licensed engineers. Nothing is redrawn twice and nothing gets lost between companies, because there is only one company.

The model drives the machines. CNC data flows from the detailing model straight to our robotic plasma line, so copes, holes, and profiles are cut exactly as detailed. Clash and fit problems get caught on screen, where they cost minutes, not on the fit-up table, where they cost days.

Detailing in-house is also why we absorb change without losing the schedule. RFIs get answered in hours because the detailer, the project manager, and the shop are in the same building. For clients who plan in models, we deliver BIM and IFC files and schedule-linked 4D models that show what erects when.

The group answers to President Justin Lajoie, an expert detailer with 30 years delivering some of the most demanding jobs in heavy industry. He built this team with the same attention to detail he holds himself to, and it shows in every drawing that leaves the office.

Why it matters

Why in-house detailing wins jobs

No telephone game

The detailer walks the floor and talks to the fitter. Questions get answered at the table, not routed through three companies and two time zones.

Model to machine

What is modeled is what gets cut. CNC data goes from SDS/2 to the plasma line without manual redraws, so detailing errors die on screen.

Revisions in days, not weeks

When the IFC set changes, our model changes the same day and the shop keeps moving. Outsourced detailing turns every revision into a contract negotiation.
